This beautiful and moving poem by an unknown author was left by a soldier killed in Northern Ireland to “all my loved ones”. It gained national renown when it was read by the soldier’s father on Remembrance Sunday some years later on the Bookworm TV programme.
This special edition, illustrated by Paul Saunders, is intended to be a lasting memorial for all who are mourning a loved one. Its message of comfort, hope and renewal has already brought consolation to hundreds of thousands and it is one of the great inspirational poems that those suffering bereavement turn to.
The author remains unknown, though several people have been forwarded as the author. These include Mary Fry and J.T.Wiggins, an Englishman who emigrated to the USA at the end of the nineteenth century.
“In its own unique way, grapples with the agony of grief and presents a simple message of comfort and reassurance.”

Born in 1900 Wilferd Peterson became a published writer in his teens and by 1961 his regular essays in ‘This Week’ magazine had made him a national figure.
